From talks to concrete prospects

During a delegation trip to Tunisia in 2026, NAVIGO accompanied the City of Essen and the Essen Economic Development Agency. NAVIGO then held further talks in Tunis and Sfax. The aim was to deepen German-Tunisian cooperation, identify concrete opportunities and build sustainable partnerships.

The delegation brought representatives of the City of Essen, the Essen Economic Development Agency and NAVIGO together with the German Embassy, AHK Tunisia, the German development agency GIZ, the Goethe-Institut and Tunisian ministries and business associations.

Workforce mobility needs more than placement

A central topic was international workforce mobility. The talks showed that successful recruitment does not start with recruiting and does not end with entry. Fair recruitment, language, cultural preparation, and long-term integration must be thought of together.

In healthcare in particular, it became clear how important balanced cooperation is, one that takes into account both the demand for professionals in Germany and the interests of the Tunisian healthcare system, and enables knowledge transfer.

Thinking three perspectives together

For NAVIGO, the trip confirmed a central approach: professionals, employers and institutions must be thought of together. Professionals need fair prospects and reliable support, employers need viable solutions, and institutions need robust framework conditions.

The talks gave rise to starting points for further expert events, projects, knowledge and technology transfer and German-Tunisian cooperations.
